The project was conceived as a “procession through a garden” and was informed by the concepts of memorial, gathering and viewing. These concepts formed important design generators for the memorial space within the context of the cemetery, and its broader context in the Sharpeville Heritage Precinct.

The landscape design of this 200-bed hospital, specialist paediatric hospital, is based on the concept and principles of therapeutic landscape design. Therapeutic landscapes are purposely designed to allow patients and visitors of all abilities (disabled, abled, young, and old) to interact with nature. Science has proven that exposure to natural greenery and natural light aid in patient recovery.

Poised against the dramatic geology and hilled environment of the Namibian plateau, the gardens of the Marula Game Ranch residence overlook (and find their root in) the meandering bends of the Schaap River that skirts its edge. Rather than cover an already beautiful hill with endless lush and “exotic” gardens, a more restrained approach was applied when considering the design.
Located in the Cradle of Humankind (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), this Maropeng Stone Garden is an extension to the existing museum complex and includes an outdoor exhibition space, amphitheatre and picnic facilities. The design was informed by the theme of human impact and aims to challenge typical museum mechanisms of explanation.
