Project Description
Perched pivotally at the heart of Holborn, Central London, this natural roof garden design is all about nature conservation. Teeming with sprawling plants & wildlife, this outdoor space is a London retreat for our Australian clients who manage a large wild reserve in Brogers Creek, NSW.
Colourful in autumn, scented in winter, energised in spring & full of summer blooms, this untamed rooftop garden celebrates nature unashamedly. Urban roof gardens are where environmental captaincy is vital, to bolster flora & fauna with biodiversity, thoughtful upkeep & recyclable materials.
30 custom-made planters divide 3 key zones to lounge, sunbathe & dine, enveloped by plants throughout. There’s a hammock, shade awning, lounge furniture & bifolding doors which connect the roof garden to the penthouse with indoor-outdoor fluidity.
A total of 90 unique species over 75sqm create broad biodiversity, with a third of the species trees. Almond, Hazelnut, Strawberry tree, Oregano, Thyme, Rosemary, along with Witch Hazel, Buddleja, Willow, Winter sweet & Elderberry are accompanied by 10 ornamental grass species, with Armeria, Cyclamen, Primrose, Scabiosa, Campanula, Stachys as perennials.
We practice organic upkeep here, adding annelids and nematodes, hand weeding only, peat-free soil, composting & harvesting rainwater, avoiding herbicides & pesticides & not pruning til spring to sustain winter shelter & fodder for biota.
