The layout of paseo de St Joan as an important 50m boulevard was first laid down by Ildefons Cerdà in his Ensanche project, approved in 1859. The new remodeling proposal sets two basic objectives: to give priority to the pedestrian use of the boulevard and turn it into a new urban green zone extending right up to Ciutadella park.

Stretching three miles along the northwestern edge of the City, MFLA designed the Presidio Coastal Trail to provide an accessible multi-use trail and a series of new overlooks, destinations, and park amenities along the bluffs of the Presidio coastline. MFLA has completed construction administration for the initial project phase, the Golden Gate Overlook and associated trails and amenities.
