Salem Harbor Power Station

Working closely with Footprint Power and COOKFOX Architects, Terrain is helping to transform the existing coal and oil-fired power plant site into a state of the art combined cycle gas turbine facility. The new power station will occupy only a fraction of the previous operation, with the remaining space being converted to a public park, industrial waterfront, deep water port, and future harbor development.

Terrain was hired to design and oversee construction for the conversion of the former Watch Tower printing press to a large urban coworking campus located next to the East river and the Brooklyn Bridge.The first phase of the campus conversion focuses on 3 at grade public gardens and a series of retail terraces and overlooks which rise above Brooklyn Bridge Park below.

The much-discussed town hall square at the centre of Meilen was realised in the course of an extension of the town hall and construction of an underground car park. Formerly a large, functional yet unattractive parking lot occupied the area between the buildings comprised of the town hall, building authority, and ZKB and UBS banks.

Between the dominant urban spaces of Europaalle and Lagerstrasse, there is a courtyard that discreetly blends into the fabric of the public spaces of the new city district. Alleyways cut through the compact block and intertwine with the stone carpets that lead out to the surrounding boulevards. Sweeping archway entrances lead into the courtyard and act as gates between two worlds with completely different mechanics.

Situated at the base of the Alexander Valley foothills, the 113-acre Silver Oak Winery- Alexander Valley, is designed to “frame the vineyards”, while enhancing and preserving natural ecologies. By incorporating an agricultural vocabulary that reinforces authenticity of place, Munden Fry Landscape Associates, carefully designed a climate appropriate, agrarian landscape of new vineyards, hedgerows, grass meadows, fastigiate screens, and entry allées.

Stretching three miles along the northwestern edge of the City, MFLA designed the Presidio Coastal Trail to provide an accessible multi-use trail and a series of new overlooks, destinations, and park amenities along the bluffs of the Presidio coastline. MFLA has completed construction administration for the initial project phase, the Golden Gate Overlook and associated trails and amenities.

Pinterest Mews

A shortcut, a pause, a sit, this mews provides both a garden retreat and a circulation spine to the new Pinterest Headquarters. Designed to be both a connector and an extension to the transparent Pinterest lobby’s moveable curtain wall, the site is composed of angled steel planters embedded with cedar slatted benches, forming a complex geometry and relationship of planter to seating.

Old Winery Road Residence

The 3.5 acre, relatively level site, was conceived as a modern agrarian assemblage of farmhouse, aggregate buildings and amenities, gardens and meadows. Framed by the surrounding hills, the spatial organization and amenities siting focused on sightlines and viewsheds. A series of interlocking “rooms” provide outdoor dining and lounging, lawns, bocce, vegetable-potager gardens, swimming terrace and pool house.
